Martindale's Main Mast

To tell the story of the mast we should start with the boat it came out of. She was VENTURA launched on 18th November 1893.

One day Hugh phoned me and mentioned there was a yacht in Drummoyne Bay that a guy wanted to give away. I phoned Brendan of Vicsail who helped me sell Saskia and offered him the yacht, Brendan mentioned that his grandfather had a yacht called Ventura in the early 1900s and at that time she was a ketch.

Brendan and I went aboard and lifted up the aft hatch and there was the step for the mizzen mast. Brendan accepted the vessel and offered me the mast which had been put in Ventura later when she was converted to Marconi rig and glues were available as this is a hollow mast. This is the mast which is now in Martindale.

Ventura has now been restored and is a beautiful yacht on Sydney Harbour again.
